This Privacy Policy explains how VitaSense ("we", "us", "our", "the app") collects, uses, stores, and shares your information when you use the VitaSense mobile application on Android or iOS. VitaSense is a nutrition and health-tracking app that lets you log meals (including from photos using AI), track water, weight, and activity, and follow your personal health goals.
By creating an account and using VitaSense, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the app. We wrote this policy to be read by people, not just lawyers — if anything is unclear, ask us.
VitaSense is developed and operated by Jigyaasa AI Private Limited, a company registered in India with its registered office at 630, MB Road, Birati, North Dumdum, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal 700051 — the "data controller" (and, under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the "data fiduciary") for your information. For privacy questions or to exercise your rights, contact us at vitasense@jigyaasa.ai, or see Grievance redressal.
If you choose to connect Android Health Connect, VitaSense reads the following record types from it: steps, active calories burned, total calories burned, hydration, and sleep sessions. See section 6 for exactly how this data is used.
AD_ID permission from the app), and no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.VitaSense asks for these permissions only when a feature needs them. You can decline, and change your choice at any time in your device settings.
| Permission | Why we ask |
|---|---|
| Camera | To photograph a meal for AI nutrition analysis, or to take a profile photo. |
| Photos / media | To pick an existing meal photo or profile photo from your gallery. We access only the image you select. |
| Notifications | To send the meal reminders, daily summaries, and goal alerts you opt into. |
| Health Connect (Android) | To read steps, calories burned, hydration, and sleep so they appear on your dashboard. Read-only; optional. |
| Internet | To sync your account and run AI meal analysis. |
Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, our legal bases are: performance of our contract with you (providing the app you signed up for), your consent (health data you enter, Health Connect access, camera and photo access, and notifications — which you can withdraw at any time), and our legitimate interests in keeping the app secure and working. We do not use your data for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
When you log a meal from a photo or a text description, the image and/or text are sent over an encrypted connection to our backend and then to Google's Gemini API to recognise the food and estimate its nutrition. We send only what is needed for that analysis — the photo or description — not your name, email, or health profile.
Connecting Health Connect is optional. If you grant permission, VitaSense reads steps, active calories burned, total calories burned, hydration, and sleep sessions from Health Connect on your device.
Our use of Health Connect data complies with the Google Play Health Connect permissions policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
All health and fitness information you give us (profile measurements, goals, meals, weight, activity) is sensitive. We treat it with additional care: it is used only for the purposes in this policy, never sold, and never used for advertising.
Your account and logged data are stored in Google Firebase services — Cloud Firestore for your records and Firebase Cloud Storage for meal and profile photos — in the Firebase project operated for VitaSense. Security rules ensure that each user can read and write only their own data. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS/HTTPS) and at rest by Google Cloud.
Some data is also cached on your device so the app works offline and loads quickly. This cache is removed when you sign out or uninstall the app.
Our backend runs on Google Cloud (Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, Cloud Scheduler, and Cloud Tasks, used for AI analysis and for delivering notifications). Because these are Google-operated services, your data may be processed and stored on servers in the United States or other countries. Where data is transferred out of the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, Google relies on approved safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses and the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
Our security practices are consistent with the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. Please keep your sign-in credentials private and tell us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.
We use the following services to operate VitaSense. Each processes data only on our instructions to provide its service.

We share your information only:
We do not sell your personal information, do not share it for advertising or marketing, and do not share health data with third parties for their own purposes.
We may use aggregated, de-identified statistics — for example, how many meals were logged in a week or which features are most used — to operate, understand, and improve VitaSense. These statistics cannot identify you.
The VitaSense website (including this page and our account-deletion page) sets no cookies and uses no analytics or advertising trackers. The app itself contains no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
Beyond the in-app reminders you control, we send a small, defined set of messages:
We do not send recurring marketing newsletters. Account messages (such as verification) accompany the service itself; for anything else, you can ask us to stop by replying to the message or emailing vitasense@jigyaasa.ai.
If you are in India, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 gives you, as a "Data Principal", the right to:
Where we ask for your consent with a declaration in the app, we keep a record of the version of the wording you accepted and when, so both of us can refer back to exactly what was agreed. If you believe we have not resolved your grievance, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Depending on where you live — for example the EU/EEA, UK, Switzerland, Brazil, India, or California and other US states — you may have additional statutory rights, including the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. We will respond to verified requests within the time required by applicable law (normally within 30 days) and will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
VitaSense is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13 (or the higher minimum age required in your country, such as 16 in parts of the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
VitaSense provides general nutrition and activity tracking and AI-generated estimates for informational purposes only. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Nutrition estimates from photos are approximate. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before making changes to your diet, exercise, or medication, especially if you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or have a history of disordered eating.
In accordance with the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the rules made under it (including the SPDI Rules, 2011 and the IT Rules, 2021), and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can raise any grievance about how your personal data is handled with our Grievance Officer:
We acknowledge grievances within 48 hours and resolve them within the time required by applicable law — and in any case within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our resolution, you may escalate to the Data Protection Board of India.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. Continued use of VitaSense after an update means you accept the revised policy. Previous versions are available on request.
